Still Truckin' on the Remodel

I took a few weeks off for the Christmas Holidays, so I've had plenty of time on my hands. Decided to finish out the Master Bedroom Closet...which I already had the new carpet for. Unfortunately, it was not ENOUGH carpet for the whole space, so I'm doing a tile outline. I think it will work out okay though.

I have had a heck of a time finding good/cheap labor though. Everyone wants to make a buck off the dumb blonde chick apparently.

Finally today, I ripped the old carpet out myself to haul in the new to see what I was working with. I decided I would just hire someone to do the carpet alone, and perhaps take a stab at the tile myself (since it seemed like something easy enough to figure out AND I had all the materials/tools).

Well, after a few calls to random dudes on Craigslist, I found a guy that was willing to do just the carpet for quite a bit less than anyone else. (One guy had the NERVE to say he'd do the carpet and tile for $500 bucks. SERIOUSLY dude?! I'm not an idiot.)

Anyway, he came and took a look at the job and then measured out the carpet and it was just as I suspected, there wasn't enough carpet to do the job the "easy" way...

He told me he was going to figure out some stuff and get going on it. Well, next thing I know, I look out the window and his truck is gone. I SERIOUSLY thought the guy just decided it wasn't worth the money and bailed! I figured I'd was back to getting bids from peeps off Craigslist.. Next thing I know though, the guy is coming out of my room to ask me something!? I then realized his buddy just took off with his truck for a while, to let him work. Oy! Long story long, for 50 bucks more, he's just going to do the entire job (and he still came in WAY under the other bids I got). He's in there now ripping out tack strip! Woohoo!

The closet it about 9' x 8.5' (and yes, I use up EVERY SQUARE INCH by myself).

Hopefully, in a few hours, it will have a complete makeover! Then... on to the kitchen/family room flooring. #goodtimes

Update January 1st - My guy finished the work last night! Done! And for the record, that is only 1/2 my shoes. I took the picture before I cluttered the place with tons of shoes. :)

Your guy did a very professional looking job--way to be tough and hold out for what you want.
