So, as a few of you know, we had an incident. I still count my lucky stars and knock on wood that I have not had one broken bone between my two boys to date! However, we are not without injury. Chase was at his sitters house on Tuesday morning. I had JUST dropped him off when the chubby little guy tripped on a rug and landed face first into a coffee table. No external face damage, but he has totally mutilated his poor tongue. And I'm not an overly dramatic mom. If it was a little cut, I'd be frank about it. This thing however, is a huge gash. No, it's not even a gash. The kid now has a "flap" on his tongue about an inch long. And for those that REALLY know Chase, you know how devastating this is for him. The boy loves to EAT!
I didn't take him to the ER immediately. Marni (my favorite sitter in the world!) called her/our pediatrician/mother/brother/sister (my mom is out of town at Education Week!) who all confirmed that there is not one thing you can do for a kid that has slashed his tongue. Well, the guilt set in today as I was forcing his Motrin on him at 7am. His tongue was just huge and gross and I just couldn't go any longer thinking that I was damaging him for life by not spending 300 bucks on an ER visit. (I fear for the lisp!)
So, I left work..drove to pick him up, and got to the ER. We really only waited about 40 minutes before getting called...then more waiting...then rectal thermometers...Chase fighting to keep his mouth sealed shut...and then my favorite part: a whole lot of NOTHING. No antibiotic, no sutures, no cleansing, nadda. One wooden tongue depressor was about it. (And that is ALL I better be charged for! lol) So, in fairness, I KNEW there would be a whole lot of nothing....but I needed that peace of mind. So, I guess ultimately I got what I bargained for.
Now, I wait for the insane bill to come in the mail. Don't you love ER fees? I do carry insurance, but since I'm contracting, it's not the best insurance in the world by any stretch. I guess with all the extra cash I make contracting I should have invested in a better policy...but man, do I think insurance is a RACKET! So... we'll see what happens. For now, I have a sad little 2 year old with a torn up tongue that is desperate to be able to eat FRIES again! :) He can only stomach so many gogurts and puddings. This is a real "meat and potatoes" kid! :)

Nice. Same thing happened to WEs a few months ago except he got 4 stiches. $1700 dollars later, he is good to go (and he doesn't even have a lisp).
We all walk such a fine line of good mom/guilty mom! It's so hard to know what to do sometimes! I think you did the right thing, though. Get him a blizzard! That makes EVERYTHING better!
Geez, Tiff! No fun for him or YOU!! I hope he feels better soon!
Man that was hilarious to read, not the injury part, but the cynical, take no crap, writing that is so typical of the Crispy. I love ya man. Give Chase a big french fry for me when he's able to munch it down. Rest easy girl, you are a great mom.
